RMetS Awards 2024 opens for nominations

The Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) is pleased to invite nominations for its 2024 Awards, including the prestigious Honorary Fellowship, and the Symons Gold Medal and Lecture for Lifetime Achievement in Advancing Science. The awards will be presented at a special ceremony in 2025, celebrating the valuable contribution of scientists and professionals to weather and climate science.

RMetS Awards encompass a range of categories to acknowledge and honour the dedication of individuals and teams at various stages of their careers. These include:

Awards for Advancing Science

These awards recognise individuals or teams who have made significant contributions to advancing weather and climate science. Awards winners may have demonstrated exceptional research, innovative methodologies, or new discoveries that have improved our understanding of atmospheric processes or climate dynamics. Their work may represent a major step forward in, expanding the boundaries of knowledge within meteorology.

Awards for Educating, Inspiring, and Enthusing

The awards in this category celebrate those who have educated and inspired the next generation of meteorologists. Whether through teaching, public outreach, science engagement, or developing educational resources, these individuals will have made significant impacts in fostering a greater understanding and enthusiasm for weather and climate science. Their dedication to education and outreach or as science communicators may have helped cultivate a more informed and engaged public.

Awards for Impact on Science, Policy, or Society

These awards honour individuals or teams whose work may have had a significant impact on science, policy, or society at large. Recipients may have made notable contributions that bridge scientific research and practical application, influencing policy decisions, public awareness, or societal actions related to weather and climate issues. Their efforts may have led to meaningful changes, demonstrating the critical role of meteorology in addressing global challenges. Awards in this category focus on applications, impact and innovation across the meteorological sector including observations, instrumentation, computational models, tools or visualisation.

Awards for Contribution to RMetS or Society

This category rewards individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Royal Meteorological Society or the meteorological community. To make your nomination, please view the full list of awards at Call for Nominations. For each award, click "Nominate now" to be taken to the awards submission platform, hosted via Zealous.

Once you arrive at the awards submission platform, please click "Apply Now". You will be then be taken through the process of creating a Zealous account which will enable you to manage your nomination(s).
