ABSTRACT:The Met Office National Climate Information Centre (NCIC) is responsible for monitoring the UK’s climate and generating climate information and statistics from UK surface observations. NCIC maintain long-running climate series for the UK, which are used to put recent weather events into long-term context. In this talk I will describe various aspects of the work of the NCIC team, and discuss a recent annual ‘State of the UK climate’ publication. I will also look at some of the noteworthy weather events experienced in the UK in recent years.
