Contrail-cirrus, other non-CO2 effects and Smart Flying
LOCATION
To bring together the atmospheric science and civil aircraft operating communities to consider the prospects for reducing the climate impact of contrail-cirrus by re-routing air traffic to avoid the localised regions of cold moist air in which persistent contrails form.
Out of the discussions it is hoped that guidance and priorities will emerge to determine the direction of research in both communities, stimulate new co-operative projects within the EC research framework and influence the forward thinking of policy makers.
Confirmed speakers include:
• Prof Keith Shine, Regius Professor of Meteorology and
Climate Science, University of Reading
• Dr Klaus Gierens, Atmospheric Scientist, German
Aerospace Centre (DLR)
• Prof Steven Barrett, Director, Laboratory for Aviation
and the Environment, Massachussetts Institute of
Techonology (MIT)
• Dr Jarlath Molloy, Environmental Affairs Manager, NATS
• Dr Steve Smith, Head of Climate Science, Committee on Climate Change (CCC)
• Prof David Lee, Professor of Atmospheric Science
and Director, Centre for Aviation, Transport and
the Environment (CATE), Manchester Metropolitan
University
